Normally, you will want at least 3 different editors at your fingertips

• A text editor with line numbers -- vital for computer code.
• A WYSIWYG editor for creating Web pages. I'm using one to write this text.
• Standard word processor, such as Word or WordPerfect.

I upgraded text editors recently, being delighted to have discovered PSPad (free). I also keep my long-time editor, Programmer's File Editor (PFE), open on my System 7 taskbar. Knowing its features without having to stop and think, I use it for fast handling of mini-tasks that I don't want to slow down to figure out right now in the new editor. PFE (as would WordPad and similar editors) doubles as a handy central clipboard for a wide variety of my computer activities.
